Salt and Pepper diamonds have become quite popular over the last few years, but what the heck are they?!
Once considered less valuable, Salt and Pepper diamonds are now highly coveted diamonds with many specks of carbon throughout them, giving them a distinctive flacked or mottled appearance. These diamonds are formed in the same way as traditional white diamonds, but they have a high concentration of dark inclusions or "pepper" and white inclusions or "salt" that give them their unique look.
One of the benefits of choosing a salt and pepper diamond for an engagement ring is that they are generally less expensive than traditional white diamonds of the same carat weight and quality - anywhere from 20-60% lower in cost! This is because the inclusions that give them their unique appearance are typically considered flaws in traditional diamonds. However, these perfectly imperfect inclusions actually make salt and pepper diamonds more unique and interesting.
